I Corinthians 16

Freewill Offerings
1) Now concerning the collection of money for the saintsA, do what I told all the Galatia churches to do:  2) Each Sunday everyone of you is to set aside and save a portion of the money the Lord has prospered you  with, so that there will be no collections when I come.

AThis was in reference to the saints in Jerusalem.  And the word "saints" is what all God's people are called throughout the N.T.  It is not something they might attain to after they die but every person who believes in Jesus Christ is now a saint.  The word means "holy' and "cleansed" by God and for God, and separated from the world to God.

3) When I come I will write a letter authorizing those you approve to take your gift to Jerusalem.  4) And if it seems appropriate for me to also go then they can travel with me.

The Life Of Apostles
5) I will come to you soon as I go through Macedonia for I intend to only pass through Macedonia.  6) I may stay with you for a while and even spend the winter so you can help me on my way after that.  7) I don't want to just see you as I pass through but I hope to remain with you for some time, if the Lord allows.  8) But I will stay here in Ephesus until Pentecost 9) because there is an enormous opportunity for a great work here, but I have many enemies who oppose me.

10) But if Timothy comes, see to it that he has no intimidation for he is doing the Lord's work, just as I am.  11) So see to it that no one despise, belittle or under value him.  But send him on in peace to me for I expect him to come with the other brothers.

12) Now about Apollos our brother, I strongly urged him to come to you with the brothers, but he did not think it was God's will for him to come right now.  But he will come to you when he has the opportunity.

Last Exhortations
13-14) Keep your eyes wide open for spiritual danger!  Be unmovable in your faith!  Be fearless men!  Be powerful!  Do everything in love!

15-16) Now you know brothers the household of Stephanas and his family, how they were the first believers in Greece and have been devoting their lives to helping and serving God's people.  Enlist under them and be subject to such men, and to all men like them who join in the work and labor at it.

17-18) I am so rejoicing that Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus have arrived here.  They have supplied what had been lacking on your part and the help you weren't here to give me. They have invigorated my spirit as they have yours.  Therefore acknowledge and recognize such men as these.

19-20) The churches in the province of Asia send you their greetings.  Aquila and Priscilla and the church that meets in their houseB greats you greatly in the Lord.  All the brothers and sister here send you their greetings.  Greet one another with a holy kiss.

BThere are three categories of Christ's church in the New Testament:  His universal church, city church and house church.  The traditional church today is not really like the New Testament church.

To learn what the New Testament church was really like, and how and why it was able to "turn the world upside down" and be fulfilling the Great Commission in the fisrt century, you may order:  Church Revolution Now ~ N.T. House Churches & Every Brother A Leader, at: greenwoodfellowship.com.

21-24) This final greeting is in my own handwriting: Paul -  If any person does not love the Lord, that person is doomed!  Maranatha! [Our Lord is coming!]  But the favor of our Lord Jesus Christ rests upon all of you!  My love also be with all of you in Christ Jesus!  Amen [so let it be]!
